Deputy Assistant Secretary Bay Fang in Stockholm; Addresses U.S. Climate Action
Stockholm-based think tank FORES hosted a seminar with Bay Fang, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State in the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs, on August 13. She zeroed in on recent reports showing that the United States has reduced greenhouse gas emissions by nearly eight percent since 2006. The emission reductions can primarily be attributed to U.S. policy, particularly new fuel economy standards for vehicles and natural gas replacing coal as fuel in power plants.
“Another tangible example of a program that has enabled the United States to decrease greenhouse gas emissions is the so-called weatherization program. Weatherization is another name for retrofitting or making existing houses more energy-efficient. Since 2009, more than 600 000 homes in the United States have been retrofitted,” DAS Fang said.
